Selected among only five competitors who reached the national stage in Cyber Security at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman National Skills Competition 2023, organized by Bangladesh’s National Skills Development Authority.

In 2023, I advanced to the National Final in Cyber Security at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman National Skills Competition, organized by Bangladesh’s National Skills Development Authority (NSDA), then operating under the Prime Minister’s Office.

Reaching the national stage represented an important milestone in my cybersecurity journey — recognition earned through competitive progression and practical technical evaluation at the national level.

A nationwide skills competition

The competition began with preliminary selection at the district level in June 2023, followed by competitions across all eight divisions of Bangladesh. The strongest competitors then advanced to the National Final, held in Dhaka on December 1–2, 2023.

The national competition covered seven professional skill areas:

  • Cyber Security
  • Web Technology
  • Cooking
  • Welding
  • Fashion Technology
  • Baking
  • Painting

Among them, Cyber Security had only five competitors at the national stage, making advancement to the final a highly selective distinction.

The competition was also connected to the international skills ecosystem: first-place national competitors were positioned to represent Bangladesh at the WorldSkills Competition 2024 in Lyon, France.

National recognition in cybersecurity

Advancing through the competition required more than theoretical knowledge. Cybersecurity demands structured problem-solving, analytical thinking, technical accuracy, security awareness, and the ability to perform under pressure.

Being selected among the national finalists therefore represented externally evaluated recognition of my practical cybersecurity capability at an important early stage of my career.

Following the competition, I received formal recognition as a National Finalist in the Cyber Security Trade from the National Skills Development Authority.

The national recognition ceremony was held at Biniyog Bhaban in Dhaka on February 10, 2024. The event was attended by senior national officials, with Mohammad Tofazzel Hossain Miah, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, as Chief Guest; Finance Secretary Md Khairuzzaman Mozumder as Special Guest; and Nasreen Afroz, Executive Chairman of NSDA, chairing the ceremony.

An early milestone in my cybersecurity career

This distinction came while cybersecurity was evolving from an academic specialization into the central direction of my professional work.

My undergraduate education in Software Engineering with a major in Cybersecurity established the technical foundation. The National Skills Competition gave me an opportunity to demonstrate those capabilities beyond the classroom in a competitive environment.

Since then, my work has expanded across software security engineering, secure system architecture, vulnerability analysis, cybersecurity research, security operations, and security-by-design.

My journey has also evolved from competing in technical challenges to designing cybersecurity challenges, mentoring participants, and evaluating the work of other technologists.

The National Skills Competition remains an important point in that progression:

Learning cybersecurity → competing nationally → engineering secure systems → researching security → judging and mentoring others.

Being selected among the five Cyber Security competitors at the national stage was not simply a competition result. It represented national-level recognition of a technical discipline that would later become the foundation of my professional career.
